AssistMS: Artificial Intelligence-assisted Magnetic Resonance Imaging for quality, efficiency and equity in the NHS care of Multiple Sclerosis.
We invite you to take part in a potentially groundbreaking clinical trial exploring how Artificial Intelligence (AI)-assisted Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) could transform MS care within the NHS. This study aims to improve the quality, efficiency, and accessibility of MS diagnosis and monitoring—helping to ensure that every person with MS receives the best possible treatment, regardless of where they live.
MS is a complex condition that requires timely and adequate management. By participating, you’ll contribute to advancing AI technology that we expect will enhance detection and monitoring of MS disease activity. Your involvement will help shape the future of MS treatment, making care more accurate for the individual, and equitable for a large proportion of over 150,000 people with MS living in the UK.
Taking part is entirely voluntary, and your MS care will not be affected if you choose not to participate. If you're interested, we’d love to hear from you!
You will not have to undergo additional MRI scanning as part of the study!
Rather, we will use your standard MRI scans and analyse them in two ways:
1. Standard Analysis: A neuroradiologist visually inspects your scans, as it has always been done.
2. AI-Assisted Analysis: A neuroradiologist visually inspects your scans AND uses icobrain ms, an AI tool, to support their assessment.
The method used will be randomly assigned, meaning neither you, your doctor, nor your radiologist can choose which approach is applied. Regardless of the method, your doctor will discuss the results with you at your regular visits and explain what they mean for your MS care.
Your participation could help shape the future of MS imaging, improving accuracy and efficiency for patients everywhere.
Thank you for considering your participation in AssistMS!
Participant benefits
-
Improving Healthcare Efficiency: AI-powered tools could streamline MS diagnosis, reduce delays and ensure faster treatment decisions—possibly leading to improved patient outcomes.
-
Promoting Equal Access to Care: AI-assisted MRI analysis has the potential to provide more patients with timely and accurate diagnoses and treatment decisions, helping to bridge gaps in MS care nationwide.
